Overview
When sourcing all-new technology products, one challenge supply managers face is when and how to collaborate with design and engineering colleagues. New product launches offer supply management professionals an opportunity to positively impact their company’s growth. To effectively speed up innovation, we must build bridges with our cross-functional team members. Our ability to acquire early cost data from suppliers, share information with product development teams, and quickly source parts also undoubtedly shortens the timeline. In this webinar, we’ll unpack proven strategies, tactics and tools that provide massive results for supply chain professionals to source new technology products faster.
You’ll Learn
- How to quickly change your colleagues’ perception of supply management from “cost czar” to “trusted advisor” to enable a greater sourcing impact
- What new agile project management software tools are available to help facilitate earlier supply chain involvement during product development
- What tactics provide the best results when including suppliers earlier for both sourcing and generating greater technical product feedback
- Why it’s critical to include supply management team members early in product design (supported by data from academic research)

APICS Greater Detroit Presents: The Autonomous Vehicle – Ground-Shaking Supply Chain Impact Considerations
Wednesday, May 17, 2017
There’s a lot of news circulating about autonomous vehicles. This disruptive technology will require a paradigm shift as the world moves toward contemporary ride sharing scenarios and the introduction of autonomous vehicle technology—the 24/7-vehicle usage profile.
Come join us as we learn about the supply chain impact and considerations for this paradigm shift associated with autonomous vehicles (i.e. self driving vehicles)!
Current vehicle usage cycles are very low, 5% or less. However, within the context of a fully mature autonomous vehicle environment involving structured car sharing, the daily usage rate could grow to 95% or more. Such a dramatic increase in utilization will have an impact on the vehicle system life, the supply chain to support it, and is assumed will have a significant degradation effect. This presentation will explore this hypothesis.
While full adoption may take decades, driverless cars are inevitable. Companies that look far ahead, plan and execute the fastest will survive. Those companies sticking to tradition risk stalling, or disappearing altogether.

Supply Chain Collaboration – The Ultimate Value Chain Experience!
Wednesday, April 26, 2017
APICS Greater Detroit Presents: Supply Chain Collaboration – The Ultimate Value Chain Experience!
Get ready for action! WARNING…. This evening is NOT a “relax at dinner and listen to a lecture” type of evening! But don’t worry, you will be fed… both your mind and your body!
Join us for a hands-on Supply Chain event – a fun, high energy evening learning to bridge theory and practice!
APICS Greater Detroit is pleased to announce a supply chain learning experience that integrates theory in a practical way. This cross-functional business simulation workshop is a hands-on opportunity. Participants will be part of a simulated management team in one of the four following roles:
VP Purchasing: Responsible for selecting the right suppliers and agreeing SLAs with suppliers, including possible collaboration options.
VP Operations: Must decide on capacity in warehouses and production areas and approve investment in bottling lines and mixers. Can introduce various improvement projects. Has the ability to outsource outbound warehousing.
VP Supply Chain: Manages inventories (safety stock and lot size settings), production intervals, and the frozen period of production.
VP Sales: Agrees SLAs with customers, manages the product and customer portfolio, forecasts demand and can introduce collaboration concepts.
The Goal: deliver optimal performance using supply chain best practices from theory and real life. Or, in other words, win prizes through creating the best-simulated supply chain! (And YES, there will be metrics!!!)
Just like real world, every decision a participant makes has trade-offs, both within and across roles, so participants will only succeed if they align all the disciplines. As the simulation evolves it becomes clear that a supply chain strategy is essential for success – and that the strategy must be implemented and deployed to functional levels and below to be effective. Winning is about generating the best ROI for the business while still managing your own team’s Key Performance Indicators and targets.
This event is designed for any professional who works as part of cross-functional teams along the value chain. This can include:
General managers, Operations managers, Production managers, Supply chain managers, Logistics managers, Warehouse managers, Sales / Marketing managers, Financial managers, Procurement managers / buyers, Planners / forecasters

Using Modeling Technology to Mitigate Supply Chain Risk
Tuesday, November 15, 2016
DESCRIPTION
Given the new global reality of sustained volatility, complexity and rapid change, supply chain design has become a critical business function. Forward-thinking businesses are continuously redesigning and improving their supply chains. They are using modeling
Technology to examine how their supply chain will perform under a wide range of market conditions and assumptions, and analyzing the trade-offs between cost, service and risk. They are able to mitigate business risk through the engineering of their supply chain operations, therefore enabling significant and sustained advantage over competitors. Attendees will learn how creating living models of the supply chain, enables three key elements of supply chain risk mitigation:
• Visibility: What is the current structure and flow of goods through my supply chain?
• Scenario analysis: What if we try this? How would my costs or service be affected by this?
• Rapid response: How should I react to an unplanned event?

PRINCIPLES OF MRP SEMINAR IN DETROIT!
Materials Requirements Planning (MRP) is a vital component in the supply chain. It acts as the bridge between master planning and production in a system. MRP helps to determine requirements and keep priorities. The APICS Principles and Practices of MRP seminar assists beginning and experienced planners using a MRP system. Through classroom discussion and practical, hands-on exercises, this seminar will help attendees gain a firm understanding of the principles and functions of MRP in the manufacturing process.
Attend this seminar and learn how to:
Understand the objectives and functions of MRP
Work with the different types of demand placed on the inventory resources of the company
Use MRP-generated action messages when performing MRP output maintenance
Determine when it is time to release manufacturing and purchase orders
Develop performance measurements to determine the effectiveness of the MRP in priority management
By the conclusion of the seminar, attendees will have acquired practical tools to make MRP environments work more smoothly, increase productivity and reduce operational costs.
